โ Attorney review required before launch. This is a working draft written to be clear and honest, not a lawyer-reviewed document. In particular, the "information publisher, not an insurance broker, intermediary or financial adviser" positioning below needs review against the EU Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) before any insurance affiliate link goes live โ our insurance cluster is aimed at readers whose residence status depends on buying the right policy, which raises the stakes on getting this positioning right. Confirm the operating entity's legal name and registered address before publishing.
What This Site Is
HowToLithuania.com publishes practical guides for foreigners moving to, living in, working in and studying in Lithuania โ banking, visas, taxes, insurance, housing and culture. We are an information publisher. We research topics, verify figures against official sources where we can, and write down what we find.
What we are not
We are not an insurance broker, insurance intermediary, financial adviser, tax adviser or immigration lawyer, and nothing on this site is financial, legal, tax or insurance advice. Where we link to a bank, broker, insurer or other provider, any contract you enter is directly between you and that provider โ we are not a party to it, and we do not sell, arrange or underwrite any product mentioned here.
No Advice Given
Everything on this site is general information, written for a broad audience, not a recommendation tailored to your individual circumstances. In particular:
- Not financial advice. Nothing here is a recommendation to open a particular account, buy a particular investment, or use a particular broker. Investments can fall as well as rise; you could get back less than you put in.
- Not tax advice. Tax rules change, and your position depends on facts specific to you. Confirm anything time-sensitive with VMI, Sodra or a qualified accountant before acting.
- Not legal or immigration advice. Visa, permit and citizenship rules are applied case by case. For anything where the outcome matters โ an application, a refusal, a deadline โ get advice from a qualified immigration lawyer.
- Not insurance advice or insurance distribution. We describe what insurance products generally exist and what Lithuanian rules generally require. We do not assess your personal insurance needs or recommend a specific policy for your circumstances. Read your policy certificate and, where your immigration status depends on it, confirm compliance with the relevant authority before relying on it.
If a decision matters โ money, your immigration status, your health โ verify it with an official source or a licensed professional before acting on anything you read here.
Accuracy, and What We Do When We're Wrong
We try hard to get figures right, and we say so explicitly where we haven't yet verified something: pages carrying a red-bordered Verify box are telling you plainly that a figure needs independent confirmation before you rely on it. That box is a deliberate part of how we publish, not an oversight to be tidied away.
Even so:
- Rates, thresholds and requirements change, sometimes with little notice, and a page can be accurate on the day it's written and wrong a year later
- We date our pages so you can judge how current the information is
- If you find something wrong, tell us and we will check it and correct it, or explain why we haven't
We do not guarantee that any figure, rate, threshold or requirement on this site is current or complete at the time you read it.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Lithuanian law:
- We provide this site "as is", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, as to accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose
- We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, this site's content โ including financial loss, a refused application, or a missed deadline
- This does not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded (for example, liability for fraud, or death or personal injury caused by our negligence)
Use of this site, including any decision made after reading it, is at your own risk.
Affiliate Relationships
Some links on this site are affiliate links: if you follow one and open an account, sign up for a service, or buy a policy, we may earn a commission โ at no additional cost to you. This is disclosed on any page carrying such a link, near the first call to action as well as in the footer.
Two things this does not change:
- Affiliate relationships do not determine what we recommend. Where we recommend against a partner, or list a provider that pays us nothing, that's a deliberate editorial choice โ see our editorial guidelines.
- We are not a party to any contract you enter with a partner. Terms, pricing, suitability and regulatory status are the partner's responsibility, not ours.
Outbound partner links route through this site (/go/...) so we can measure which pages are useful, anonymously โ see our privacy policy for what that involves.
Intellectual Property
The text, structure and original graphics on this site are our work and are protected by copyright. You may link to our pages and quote short excerpts with attribution. You may not republish, scrape or redistribute substantial parts of this site without permission โ ask first if you're unsure.
Trademarks, logos and brand names belonging to banks, brokers, insurers and other third parties mentioned on this site remain the property of their respective owners and are used for identification only.
External Links
We link to official sources (the Migration Department, VMI, Sodra, studyin.lt) and to third-party providers. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy or availability. A link to a site doesn't mean we endorse everything on it.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms as the site or the law changes. The date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
